Sound the trumpets – everyone’s favorite season is here! Those crisp, cool fall mornings are quickly approaching and that means it is time for change. As with every season, we find ourselves itching to give our spaces a little refresh. You know…rearranging furniture, swapping out accessories, and replacing accent pillows and throws. Perhaps one of the reasons we love fall the most is because it’s so easy to upgrade. You heard me…easy! Here are some simple ways you can warm up your home interiors this fall:
1 – Get Chunky
You know those chunky knit blankets you love to snuggle up in on those chilly days? Drape it over the corner of your bed or side chair and you’ve automatically warmed up your space. It’s like a sweater for your furniture! Not only do they look plush and cozy, but now they’re also easily accessible for whenever you need it. You can even go the unexpected route and try out a chunky knit rug or pillow for a change.
2 – Fur, Leather, Galore.. Oh My
Whether you choose faux or authentic, ( I always go with faux but hey, that’s just me and my personal decision ) there is something about fur and leather pieces that really make a space feel down to earth. It adds just the right mix of color, texture, and contrast – all while keeping things incredibly classy and comfortable.
3 – Be Earthy Fall is known for it’s beautiful rich colors and moody atmosphere. So when you’re thinking about freshening up your space, pull inspiration from the colors of nature all around you. By changing up a few throw pillows or swapping out some accessories you can easily tie in those dark amber, burnt orange, and rich brown colors. Just hone your inner Disney’s adaptation of Pocahontas and paint with all the colors of the wind!
4 – Oh, can you smell that smell
Fall scents are very recognizable and not hard to come by. If you want to make your home feel extra fall-ish then scented candles are your first step and probably the easiest way to achieve that. Bath & Body Works and Yankee candle, along with several local companies such as Wicked and Woven have GREAT smelling seasonal candles. Alternatively, you can diffuse essential oils ( my personal go to). If you don’t want to burn candles or diffuse oils then you can make a ‘scent pot’ instead; simply add some orange rind, cloves, cinnamon sticks and bay leaves into a pot with some water, bring to the boil and wait for your house to smell amazing! Another great tip to add some nice fall scents throughout the home is to switch out all the hand soaps and lotions in the kitchen, bathrooms, and guestrooms. It’s all about the tiny details!
5 – Wooden Pieces
Add a variety of wooden accents like bowls, trays, boxes, platters, etc. Wood brings an overall cozy fall feeling to a home no matter the season so adding an accent tray here or a wooden bowl with fruit there will only add to the fall like atmosphere you are trying to create.
5 – Just go outside
You don’t have to spend a lot to achieve a Fall inspired look in your home, in fact you really don’t have to spend anything at all if you think a little creatively and use what’s right on hand or just outside your door (literally). The best decorations for fall are all the things you find in nature that make fall so naturally beautiful in the first place; head out for a walk with some plastic bags and collect leaves, chestnuts, acorns, twigs, pine cones, whatever you find. Once you get it home be sure to dry it all out so that it lasts and doesn’t go moldy, it’s also A good idea to press the leaves for a few days by placing them between some sheets of baking paper and leaving them under some heavy books. You can scatter leaves on tables and coffee tables, use twigs and leaves in the place of flowers in vases and string acorns and chestnuts up with fairy lights.
