We all know that Summer is the season to be outdoors. It’s the perfect time for backyard barbecues, neighborhood get-togethers, and late-night evenings. A backyard is meant to be a place for your family and friends to socialize and have fun together. It shouldn’t be a part of your home that you avoid because it has nothing to offer. Nobody wants to spend the entire summer inside because their backyard is boring. There are plenty of ways to spruce up your backyard without breaking the bank, making it a future haven for all your family and friend gatherings! Make your own backyard a summer sanctuary with these simple tips.
1 – Hang Some Outdoor Lights
Outdoor lighting doesn’t have to look cheap and frilly. When done right, hanging some decorative outdoor lighting in your backyard can add a fun, modern and whimsical feel that is SUPER inviting.
2 – Add a Hammock
Simple, quick, and relaxing, a hammock is an awesome way to enjoy your backyard for cheap. Find a couple of trees and voila! Instant nap getaway. If you don’t have the right tree setup for a hammock, you can purchase one that has a base, so you can place it anywhere in your yard. I, myself, particularly enjoyed having a hammock in my backyard even as a child, so this idea is sure to get the kids interested in being outdoors.
3 – Build a Trellis
Building or purchasing a trellis to place alongside your home is a great way to break up the monotony of boring brick and siding. The options on what to plant around the trellis are wide open too! Climbing ivy, tomato vines, or indigo morning glories would all make beautiful additions. The options are endless!!
( Pinterest has some GREAT DIY trellis ideas BTW )
4 – Add Furniture
If you plan on entertaining, a cohesive set of outdoor furniture is a must-have. Get the basics including some lounge chairs, an umbrella, and an outdoor table so you can enjoy meals or games outside. In addition to patio furniture, you may want to buy or build an outdoor fire pit. It’s a simple feature that adds so much to your backyard. Sit around the fire and socialize, roast marshmallows or even cook dinner on your own backyard fireplace. A handsome patio furniture set can pull a space together and establish a sense of community. If new patio furniture isn’t in your budget, consider reviving some old pieces. Just hit up your local flea markets and yard sales to find the perfect thrifty pieces. This is a great option for do-it-yourself enthusiasts and to get the kids involved!
5 – Install a Swing
Nothing makes a patio, porch, deck, or backyard more complete than a swing. Installing a swing on your deck or hanging one from the big oak tree out back can add a romantic touch to your yard and they’re adaptable to almost any style. You can purchase cushions that complement the space or paint it any color you want. Just imagine yourself sipping on an ice cold glass of lemonade this summer while enjoying the summer breeze. ( unless you live in North Carolina of course…breeze? What breeze? )
